Training on Vacation

It is crazy to train during a weekend in another city, but when you go to the countryside, even for a couple or three days, you can afford to enjoy a short jog, a set of gymnastic exercises or meditative practices, play a little movement games with family members or friends. But what about the usual exercise for those who intend to leave in winter for a warmer country for a longer period of time?

Short-term summer vacations in the winter.

A week or two is the most common type of vacation split or “painless” taken at your own expense. Going to a resort in a warm country find out the conditions for the continuation of the usual kind of fitness. In the vast majority of hotels it is possible. Gyms, swimming pools and playgrounds have long been included in the standard set of related hotel services.

However, do not rush to do it immediately upon arrival. It takes time to acclimatize to new temperature conditions, humidity and oxygen content in the air, change of diet, water quality, time zone change. Most will take 3-5 (some up to 10) days to acclimatize.

So if you go away for a week, you simply can’t get a full workout. Limit yourself to exercising as you feel.

A two-week vacation already allows you to try to do a few workouts in the usual mode after adapting to new conditions. Why not? It will be useful to try to work out on unfamiliar machines, talk to a motley crowd of fitness enthusiasts, and see how the body behaves while running in a different climate zone. It’s a good experience.

Nevertheless, you can also afford a “total humpty dumpty” for 14 days. On the one hand, that’s not enough time to get critically sprained. On the other hand, the absence of habitual physical activity will be a marker of the correctness of your training. After a week of doing nothing, does it feel like “withdrawal”? Upon arrival, you need to change your training scheme and intensity.

Wouldn’t it be nice to go from winter to summer for three months?

Today, this “pleasure” is gaining in popularity. This length of stay in Indian Goa, Thailand, Vietnam, and many other warm countries (taking into account flights) is quite financially feasible for young people working remotely, or mothers on maternity leave with 1-3 year old children. What do they need to remember? Of course all of the above.

Two weeks will be enough to fully restore the habit of life, but already in the new place. After 6 weeks after the move you can count on the progress of physical performance, but do not hurry to increase the load. Consolidate your achievements, and only before you go home, 2 weeks before you leave, you can give a higher load.

Upon returning home, be prepared for unpleasant re-acclimatization. Its duration will last individually, from about 2 to 10 days. During this time don’t train, don’t go to the sauna, pay attention to nutrition and vitamins, sufficient water intake, and to improve the quality of sleep take melatonin at the rate of 3 mg per 2 time zones.

But immediately after the jet lag, you’ll get a pleasant surprise. After a couple of workouts, you’ll feel an unprecedented lift and you’ll show record-high physical performance.
