City of Copenhagen
The brief
The tourist board of the City of Copenhagen, named "Wonderful Copenhagen", asked TSE Consulting to conduct a strategic review of the city`s possibility to play a major role as a centre for international sports events over the coming 10-15 years. Wonderful Copenhagen wanted to know whether sport events could compliment the city`s impressive position as one of the leading congress organisers in the world.
Our response
Using the "TSE Sports Strategy Wheel" as the basic model, TSE assisted in the development of the structure and contents for a sports strategy for Copenhagen for the period 2005-2020. First step in the process of developing the strategy was an introduction tour by Copenhagen officials to Lausanne, Switzerland, the "Olympic Capital" for gaining on-site experience of the international sports world. The process then was focused on developing a set of criteria for events that Copenhagen should bid for over the coming years ending up with a list of concrete events for the period 2005-2020. Finally, concrete proposals on how Copenhagen could structure the efforts in terms of "people and processes" over the coming years were developed. At the end of the process Copenhagen had a clearly defined way of where to go and how to get there. TSE is continuing to assist Copenhagen in the implementation of the plan and in the efforts of securing the rights to host major sports events over the coming years.
