Vote now for the top sports city!

Voting for the official ‘Sports City Poll 2016’ is now open. Now in its fifth edition, the poll has gained international attention becoming a much anticipated annual event. This year’s ‘Sports City Poll’ will remain open for two weeks, closing on December 14, 2016. The results which will provide a ranking of the top 50 cities worldwide who are perceived to be associated to sport will be announced on December 19, 2016.

Presented by Around the Rings and TSE Consulting, the poll includes only one measurement: cities who are perceived to have the strongest association with sport. Results are based on a public online vote coupled with an industry weighted vote from sports experts – a group of 100 leaders drawn from International Federations, National Olympic Committees, sports media and other influencers in the world of sport.

Respondents will chose between a list of 50 cities. These cities were selected through criteria such as staging recent and upcoming Olympics or other major multi-sport Games, hosting professional sports teams as well as organising major championships or world-class events such as tennis Grand Slams and Formula 1 races. Note that with each edition of the poll, the three lowest ranked cities drop off the list, and the top three non-listed cities named by the survey respondents are added.

In 2015, London (GBR) remained the leading sports city for a fourth consecutive year, followed by Lausanne (SUI), Barcelona (ESP) and Rio de Janeiro (BRA).

Ed Hula, Editor, Around the Rings says: “Sports tourism is a very active industry with cities competing more than ever to be crowned the top sports city. The Sports City Poll gives an interesting view, allowing cities to see what kind of impact they have made on the public and the sport world over the past year.  2016 was a very eventful year for sport, we look forward to seeing the results!”

Lars Haue-Pedersen, Managing Director, TSE Consulting, says: “In its fifth year, the Sport City Poll is a great indicator to get the public and sports experts opinions on the efforts made by cities to position themselves as top sport destinations. This was a great year, and we look forward to see which city will take the top spot.”
