Did you thank your host city? According to a new TSE study, 44% of International Sports Federations don’t bother to stay in touch.

TSE Consulting’s latest worldwide study on the partnership between host cities and international sports federations is now available.

The independent study conducted in conjunction with Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HvA) focuses on the relationship between host cities and international sports federations and whether this can really be called a ‘partnership’. Most commonly it is the perspective of the international sports federation, or rights holder, which is highlighted during conferences and in magazine articles and this formed the impetus behind the latest research, ‘what do the host cities think?’.

With results of a survey and interviews covering 100 host cities TSE’s latest study shows that a majority of cities (74%) did in fact form a positive partnership with international sports federations. However, more worryingly and according to the cities, there remains a lot of room for improvement in regard to the bid process, the events that are offered, and communication.

Based on the results, TSE formulated a number of recommendations, including ideas for improving the relationship, for example, allowing more time for the bid process and making a real effort to strengthen the partnerships with host cities.
